I have been wanting to document the London Marathon for a few years now, after completing it myself in 2017. The city is so full of life and movement, lots of great subjects, and with the backdrop of iconic locations.
It was a full day, I started at 10:30am at the Cutty Sark, and then went to the finish to capture the elite’s crossing the line from the Virgin Money grandstand. I then went to Tower Bridge and traced the route across the thames to embankment to then follow the runners on their final few miles past Big Ben.
With so much going on it was a very busy day. I spoke with several people who were intrigued with what I was up to – I made quite the contrast to the thousands documenting the event with their phones. Children especially enjoyed seeing my pictures, so let’s hope they are inspired to draw more. It’s fun!
I had a GoPro camera on me most of the time to capture some time lapse footage of drawings coming together, this was useful and showed how in the action I had to get!
Congratulations to all the finishers on the day, it was a great atmosphere and the rain held off mostly. And thanks to Virgin Money for the grandstand access and hospitality.
All original drawings and prints available to buy, contact me for enquiries.
