I visited the capital last weekend to go to the ABBA exhibition at the Southbank Centre with my other half, and did some quick sketches whilst out and about.
The sight of Canary Wharf and the Gerkin are always iconic as you pull into the city on the train, and I attempted to capture them with a fountain pen. The top of the Canary Wharf building disappeared into clouds on that day, which was an eerie sight.
We visited Borough Market briefly just before we left for a coffee at Monmouth coffee, which was amazing, hand ground beans for every cup! I love the view towards Borough market from there, with the Shard towering behind.
I have been meaning to draw the iconic ornate street lights on the Thames embankment for a while now, and working from a few pictures I completed a watercolour of a view across the river on the journey home. I tried to capture the greyness of the city on that particular day. London almost feels Dickensian with this muted palette.
Much prefer the city in the Summer, plus it’s better conditions to draw!
