I recently spent a weekend in Bruges, Belgium for a Winter break, myself and my girlfriend were attracted by the promise of good beer, chocolate, waffles and medieval architecture.
Bruges did not disappoint, every street is cobbled and lined with medieval buildings. From the picturesque Markt Square, with the multi-coloured guild houses and imposing Belfry Tower to the canals and bridges, there is plenty to see.
There are some great laid back pubs to check out, the 't Brugs Beertje or 'Little Bear' is a really cosy little pub, packed with character and many beers to sample. Below is a fruity number we tried!
Even though it is out of season the place was pretty busy, and we had to try at least 3 or 4 restaurants to get a table Saturday eve. Eventually having success at a friendly Italian place.
The Belfry Tower was one of the landmarks I really wanted to go to the top of, however the queue was huge on our visit, so we decided against it in the cold!
We travelled via the Eurostar to Brussels, it was super easy and quick. If only our trains were as efficient as the ones in Europe! Journey back was straight-forward and just before the snow storms – which now swamp most of the UK! Looking forward to our next city break.
