I visited the Annual Vintage Working Show at Little Ellingham on the 12th August. I love documenting live events, and this one was in the village next to where I grew up in – so familiar territory!
I wandered around the various stands and demonstrations capturing what I was drawn to on paper. My breakthrough achievement was drawing one of the show participant's portrait after having introduced myself. I had just poured a bottle of indian ink down my leg and was quite on the spot! Really happy with the result however. After a few hours the rain made an appearance and I packed up, drawing outdoors and rain do not work well!
There was lots to see – friendly characters and amazing machinery. Having grown up in a rural village, these subjects were great to draw for me. Here's what I came back with.

Couple of chaps inspecting one of the many old tractors on display
Steam traction engine display in the arena
Richard Noble – a portrait I drew whilst in conversation

A live demonstration of vintage farming equipment

Two characters in conversation
Character looking around the tractors (Spike I was told his name was) rain drops are authentic!
Judge during horse show

Rural character

Nice tractor
